Donkeys love a party as the EARS team discovered when it hosted a picnic for Sanctuary manager Penny.

The picnic table, loaded with delicious treats, was soon besieged by paddock residents Neddy, John, Hugo, Max, Riley, Dobbin, Lance and Domen who were determined to share the crisps and trout sandwiches. Mischievous Neddy was the first to plunge his head into the bowl of crisps followed by Max who discovered the sandwiches. Neddy later stuck his nose into a glass of bubbly belonging to EARS volunteer Mignon.

Poor EARS secretary Jacqui and treasurer Nats spent much of the picnic acting as ‘bouncers’ trying to keep the naughty donkeys from the table but weren’t terribly effective. The donkeys also left muddy footprints on the picnic blankets while the horses examined handbags and picnic baskets with their teeth. Lance even tossed a picnic chair on its side.

Fortunately we’re all crazy about donkeys and forgave the funny herd, and were rewarded with the most delicious cuddles from these happy boys who were thrilled to be the centre of attention
