Happy Birthday wishes rang out in Greyton on Monday 23 February for everyone’s favourite citizen, EARS Donkey Sanctuary manager, Penny James.
Penny celebrated her birthday – as she does every year – with the friends she has made through the Sanctuary; Sanctuary founder Jo Sedgwick, Jo’s sister Judy who introduced Penny to the Sanctuary, and EARS volunteers Clare Surtees (chair), Toni Younghusband, Michelle Wells, and Gabby van Heerden at Jo’s holiday home at Cape Infanta. For Penny no birthday is complete without her loyal and much loved companion, Jack Russell Kobe’s at her side, and Kobus was joined on the trip by Clare’s dog Milo, Judy’s Oakley and Holly and Jo’s rescue puppy, Cleo.

The friends celebrated by swimming in the sea, taking long walks on the beach, hiking on the cliffs, doing art projects under art teacher Gabby’s guidance, reading, nappy and sharing long meals at a farm table.

Happy Birthday celebrations continued for three days and Penny was showered with gifts and love, so justly deserved.
