Pedro’s party to celebrate his 40th birthday was enjoyed by 40 pre-primary children drawn from two schools in Greyton and Bereaville.
Pedro wore a fynbos neck wreath beautifully crafted by Sanctuary manager, Penny James, who also hand made the bunting that decorated his paddock.
The children from Bereaville Educare walked from their tiny little school to the Sanctuary accompanied by their principal and two teachers and on arrival immediately rushed up to Pedro and his pals to say hi. Henry, a much younger and robust donkey, then broke into ‘song’ which the children interpreted as his version of “Happy Birthday, Pedro”.
Once the smaller group of kids from Little Hippo Playgroup arrived, several versions of Happy Birthday were sung and cake, cool drink and watermelon handed out.
The children loved chasing bubbles and running around on the huge lawned area in front of the Sanctuary’s stables.
At the end of two hours of fun in the sun, the children went home with happy hearts and party packs.
