Sanctuary paddocks were flooded and gates and fences brought down during the recent heavy rains in the Western Cape. Fortunately, none of our donkeys were harmed though Henry and Milo were trapped in their waterlogged paddock for some hours until Penny and her team could reach them.

Poor EARS management committee treasurer Jacqui, who lives in a cottage on the Sanctuary property, had her home flooded and had to wade through chest high water with her dogs and cats to escape. She was offered temporary shelter by neighbours and latterly by Sanctuary founder Jo Sedgwick.

It will take some time to get the Sanctuary back in order, and it’s going to be expensive to replace those fences so we’re hard at work trying to raise funds.
